May 11, Mathemwgic rated it it was ok. Of course, with my short memory, I had to buy a copy so I can refer back to it. He is also a professional magician and performs his mixture of math and magic all over the world.
I’m only interested in practical mental math.
However, the second half had some cool techniques that I didn’t know, and while 4 or 5-digit multiplication problems are just plain difficult as the author admits nenjamin, 3 and 4 digit squares are more doable than I would’ve thought, and perfect cube roots of numbers with up to 6 digits are so easy it’s fun.

Now with that out of the way, can you calculate squares and square roots in your head? These tricks are so wonderful, it’s a wonder they didn’t use arthut in school. Lists with This Book.

However, it is a hard core book on math so how exciting could that really be? All these calculations requires quite a few balls in the air and it is a whole other level multiplying two 5-digit numbers on stage in front of an audience, as Arthur Benjamin.

Some things in here I have no interest in mastering, but there are some neat tricks worth some study! Not only did I improve a lot just from watching, but I picked up some really neat new tricks that I know I can get with practice.
By the last few chapters my face practically melted. Secrets of Mental Math will have you thinking like a math arthyr in no time. He says that we all can learn these truly impressive methods for calculation, but I’d like to add that you’re not going to succeed just by leafing his book through; it takes A LOT of practice.
