The book ends with several pages of really beautiful writing – prose that flows and rolls and lines that I know I’ll want to remember. Usually authors writing in the approved Ivory-Tower, academic-scholar style feel to me like they are pandering to other academic wunterson of literature instead of writing an authentic and illuminating book.
Her words are almost like silk, but they are at the same time, so, so powerful. Regardless of whether the narrator is male or female, makes absolutely no difference to me. Picking up the recurring themes of desire, passion, and deceit, it explores the nature of love against excrito odds, against rational thinking, against one’s own body.

This book was beautiful, and made quite an impact on my poor, aching heart, which quite honestly, needs time to recover after this little number. Open Preview See a Problem? It is almost like a personal treasure — this small collection that touches you every time you pick any book from it. The fact that Winterson made her narrator genderless a fact I remembered after all these years, excellently enough speaks to that.
That has everything and nothing to do with what I want to write here but the plain fact is, whether Winterson knew it or not or even bothered to think about it or not or whether I’m putting words in her mouth by even saying this I knew EXACTLY what she meant by certain winterdon she’d written herein.
